IT ALL BEGAN YEARS AGO WITH JUST ONE GIFT...AND NOW, IT'S TURNED INTO A YEARLY COMPETITION...THE QUEST FOR THE PERFECT TACKY GIFT!!!!!
DR. KIMBERLY WEBER OF GONZAGA UNIVERSITY IN SPOKANE, WASHINGTON, AND DR. KIM KILLU, OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN-DEARBORN MET ONE FINE DAY IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. THEY WERE BOTH COMPLETING THEIR PH.D.'s IN SPECIAL EDUCATION AT THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. SINCE THEIR GRADUATION, EVERY YEAR, WHEN ATTENDING A CONFERENCE, THEY MEET AND EXCHANGE GIFTS...TACKY, OF COURSE. THE QUEST FOR A TACKY GIFT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. IT OFTEN TAKES NEARLY A YEAR TO FIND THE PERFECT GIFT...NOT ALL TACKY GIFTS ARE CREATED EQUALLY!!! WHILE ATTENDING THE CONFERENCE, DRS. WEBER AND KILLU ALWAYS ROOM TOGETHER. DURING THAT TIME, THEY ENTERTAIN THEIR FRIENDS, AND ASK THEM TO SECRETLY VOTE ON WHICH GIFT IS THE TACKIEST. THE GIVER OF THE TACKIEST GIFT GETS TO TAKE HOME THE 'TROPHY' FOR THAT YEAR. THESE PAGES CHRONICLE 'THE TACKY GIFT COMPETITION'...
THE VERY FIRST TACKY GIFT...GIVEN BY DR. WEBER TO DR. KILLU...
Oops! There is no picture of the first tacky gift! Dr. Killu ruined it (hmmm....among many other tacky gifts...). The first tacky gift ever, was the 'bikini clad cow floating on an inner tube' salt and pepper shaker. While at Ohio State, Dr. Killu begged Dr. Weber to give her the cow. Upon graduation, that was her gift. Shortly thereafter, however, the cow and her inner tube broke in the dishwasher. So, we have no picture of the real first tacky gift. But, the second first tacky gift is of the tacky refrigerator magnet (otherwise known as the bowling guy magnet...note that there is no bowling guy in the magnet...that's a long story)
THE TACKY TROPHY...NOW WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE TO YOU???
THE TRADITION OF THE TACKY TROPHY BEGAN IN 2001. THE **GIVER** OF THE WORST TACKIEST GIFT (AS DETERMINED BY THE NUMBER OF VOTES EACH GIFT RECEIVES) GETS THE TROPHY TO DISPLAY PROUDLY IN HER OFFICE FOR ONE YEAR.
